A Sadler glazed earthenware lidded storage jar, part of the popular mid-20th-century face pot series. The vessel is of globular form, featuring a moulded crying face design to the front and two small scroll-shaped handles on the shoulders. The conical lid is embossed with the word Onions in script and is topped with a spherical finial. The piece is finished in a glossy, translucent glaze of mustard-yellow to olive-brown tone, which pools in the moulded recesses to accentuate the decorative details. The base features an unglazed foot rim with impressed markings including the manufacturer name Sadler England and a three-digit model number.
