A mid-20th century Swiss-made MuDu Doublematic automatic wristwatch. The timepiece features a gold-plated base metal case with a stainless steel screw-down case back. The silvered dial is set with applied rose gold-tone faceted hour markers, an Arabic numeral at the 12 o’clock position, and rose gold-tone leaf-style hands with a central seconds hand. The dial is signed M u D u with bars above the lowercase u characters, and doublematic in script, with SWISS MADE at the 6 o’clock position. The case back is stamped to the outer ring STAINLESS STEEL BACK, INCABLOC, WATERPROOF, AUTOMATIC, and SWISS, with the brand and model name repeated to the centre. The watch is fitted with a gold-tone expanding metal bracelet marked STAINLESS STEEL TOP CAPS to the end links. Historically, MuDu watches gained a unique reputation within the United Kingdom market during the mid-20th century for being sold through non-traditional outlets to circumvent contemporary import duties.
