A mid-20th-century men’s trilby hat constructed from black felt, manufactured by Battersby of London. The garment features a traditional pinched crown and a medium brim, finished with a matching wide grosgrain ribbon hatband and a flat side bow. The brim edge is detailed with grosgrain ribbon binding. The interior is fitted with a brown leather sweatband and a full lining. A gold-stamped label under a protective plastic liner to the central crown reads BATTERSBY, LONDON, MADE EXPRESSLY FOR, G. Fernie & Sons Ltd, 1 RUMFORD STREET, LIVERPOOL, accompanied by a heraldic device featuring two lions rampant. The leather sweatband is embossed in a gold-tone finish with the words Battersby and Diplomat, alongside a stylized Q logo containing the words WEATHER-RESISTANT. Three circular metal pins displaying the monogram initials G, A, and W are pinned to the sweatband. The interior of the sweatband has been padded with fragments of discoloured newspaper by a previous owner.
