An antique optician’s trial lens set contained within a black rexine? covered wooden case featuring a red velvet-lined interior. The set comprises a comprehensive collection of diagnostic lenses mounted in brass and white metal? rims, neatly organised into sections denoted by inset white labels reading SPHERICAL CONCAVE, CYLINDRICAL CONCAVE, CYLINDRICAL CONVEX, and SPHERICAL CONVEX in red block capitals. The central compartment contains a series of prism lenses with a corresponding scale reading 15. 8 5 3 2 1.5, alongside an adjustable metal trial frame, a small screwdriver with a black handle, and a cylindrical brass accessory container. The lens dioptre scales are printed in red and black, ranging from 0.12 to 16.0. The set is accompanied by a separate small wooden tray housing twelve circular glass filters, fitted with a small brass tag stamped 2055.
