This rectangular relief plaque, likely produced as an electrotype or through the repoussé process in copper or a copper alloy, depicts the biblical scene of the Baptism of Christ. The composition is executed in a Neoclassical style, featuring Saint John the Baptist standing and holding a long cruciform staff in his left hand while pouring water from a small shell over the kneeling figure of Jesus with his right. Both figures are rendered with athletic, classical proportions and are draped in traditional robes. The plaque is cast with an integral raised border and features a hollow, concave reverse. The back shows traces of adhesive or gilding from a previous mounting and has a small metal hanging loop attached to the upper edge. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the front or back of the piece.
