This lot comprises an embroidered military souvenir and a set of six hand-painted circular miniatures. The primary item is a textile souvenir from the Second World War, constructed on a black fabric ground with a light blue silk fringe border. The central motif is a hand-embroidered badge of the Royal Engineers from the King George VI era. The badge features a circular garter inscribed with the motto Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense around a central GRVI cypher. The garter is surmounted by a King’s Tudor crown and flanked by a laurel wreath. To the right is an embroidered scroll reading Royal Engineers. The piece includes vertical text reading Palestine on the left and the date 1940 at the top. Decorative floral sprigs in white and red thread with green stems are positioned around the central emblem. The set of six circular miniatures depicts individual hand-painted scenes of nude or semi-nude female figures in pastoral landscapes. These miniatures are executed in the pin-up style common to souvenirs purchased by British servicemen in the Middle East and North Africa during the 1940s. The miniatures appear to be enamel on a metal or porcelain base.
