Attributed to Lombard, this mid-20th century fireside accessory is designed as a magazine rack or kindling box. The piece is constructed from a wooden frame entirely clad in embossed brass sheeting. The sloping hinged lid features a detailed repousse scene depicting a traditional horse-drawn stagecoach with passengers travelling past a roadside inn. The side panels are decorated with a repeating embossed diamond trellis pattern. The unit is fitted with a decorative cast metal carrying handle at the rear featuring a scrollwork design. The brass cladding is secured to the wooden core with small metal pins. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces shown.
