A brass armillary sphere produced in the style of 18th-century French scientific instruments. The piece features a central brass terrestrial globe surrounded by a series of rings representing the principal celestial circles, including the equator, tropics, and polar circles. A wide, diagonal ecliptic band is engraved with zodiacal names and symbols, including Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Leo, and Virgo. The sphere is housed within a graduated meridian ring which adjusts within a horizontal ring. The horizon ring is engraved with various cities and their corresponding latitudes, including Rouen 49 26, Vienne 45 40, Samos isle 38 40, Xaintes 45 40, and Verone 45 20. The inner edge of the horizon ring bears the engraved inscription A PARIS Chez G. Gobille A la Sphere Royale. The entire assembly is supported by a turned brass pedestal on a tiered circular base, which includes a central turned wooden spacer ring.
