Attributed to the workshop of Jean Gille, Paris, this 19th-century hand-painted biscuit porcelain figurine depicts a domestic scene in the 18th-century Rococo style. The figure portrays a young woman seated in a high-backed chair with a painted wood-grain effect. She is dressed in a lavender bodice with a floral-patterned shawl, a striped polychrome skirt, and a lace-trimmed cap. The subject is engaged in needlework, holding a fine metal wire. At her feet, a grey kitten plays with a ball of yarn beside a woven basket containing spools of thread. The composition is set on a naturalistic base painted to simulate mossy ground. The underside features a raised, applied white porcelain oval seal, a characteristic mark of the Jean Gille factory, along with an incised AL script mark.
