Buyer's Premium:

A small Japanese footed ceramic bowl, dating to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The exterior is decorated with a mottled grey-blue ground, featuring a hand-painted scene executed in polychrome enamels and gilt. The illustration depicts figures in traditional attire positioned beside a gold screen. The opposite side of the bowl is inscribed with five vertical columns of black ink calligraphy. The interior is finished with a smooth, cream-coloured glaze, and the bowl stands on a short, unglazed circular foot. This figurative and calligraphic decorative style is characteristic of Kutani ware produced during the late Meiji and early Taisho periods.
