A vintage men’s bowler hat, also known as a coke or derby hat, manufactured by Battersby of London. The hat is constructed from stiffened black fur felt with a classic rounded crown and a curved brim finished with grosgrain ribbon edging. It features a matching black grosgrain ribbon hatband with a side bow. The interior is fully lined with pleated cream-coloured silk or satin fabric, featuring a printed logo in the crown with a central illustration of Nelson’s Column and lions within a cartouche, accompanied by the text Battersby London. The brown leather sweatband is gold-stamped with the maker’s mark Battersby National Made in England. The lot includes the original cardboard hat box bearing a paper retailer’s label for Edward Smith and Sons, Ltd., Drapers, West Melton, Near Rotherham, and a red Parcel Post stamp. The box contains its internal cardboard support ring.
