Buyer's Premium:

An extensive collection of 44 pieces of English stoneware tableware in the iconic Greenwheat pattern, designed by Albert Colledge for Denby in the 1950s. The decoration consists of hand-painted stylised wheat stalks in shades of green and reddish-brown, set against a matte cream-coloured salt-glazed ground. Many pieces feature a contrasting deep forest green glaze to the interiors or the undersides of lids. The collection includes a tall lidded coffee or teapot, a large pitcher, a medium-sized jug, two smaller cream or milk jugs of varying forms, a lidded sugar bowl, a lidded preserve or honey pot, a small bud vase, six teacups with six matching saucers, five egg cups, a salt shaker, a lidded mustard pot, four dinner plates, five side or salad plates, a rectangular lidded butter dish on a green stand, and a rectangular lidded box. The bases are marked with a printed backstamp featuring a black oval containing the word DENBY in white capital letters. Below this is the pattern name Greenwheat in a stylised cursive script, alongside the text MADE IN ENGLAND and OVEN-PROOF, accompanied by a small wheat stalk motif. Some pieces also display a blurred blue scroll mark reading DENBY WARE and STONEWARE.
