A railway seat back unit from a British Rail Class 142 Pacer railbus, formerly operated by Northern Rail. The unit features a padded front upholstered in a durable transit moquette fabric, characterised by a deep purple ground accented with parallel horizontal light blue stripes. The unit is rectangular in form with a rounded top edge. The reverse side consists of a rigid composite or wooden backboard fitted with a single metal mounting bracket secured by two screws. A printed paper label is affixed to the reverse with clear adhesive tape, which reads 1. NORTHERN RAIL CLASS 142 PACER SEAT BACK. These units were a well known component of the UK regional rail network from the mid-1980s until their withdrawal from service around 2019 to 2020.
