A hand-carved wooden bear sculpture in the Japanese Ainu Kibori-kuma style. The figurine is carved from a single block of wood and depicts a walking bear. The entire body is heavily textured with deep, rhythmic chisel marks intended to simulate thick fur. The figurine is finished with a dark, near-black stain that highlights the carved ridges, while the muzzle and face are finished in a contrasting natural honey-toned wood. This style of carving is traditionally associated with the folk art of Hokkaido, Japan. There are no visible maker’s marks or signatures on the exterior of the piece.
