Attributed to Bretby Art Pottery, this figure depicts a black kitten in a playful reclining pose, clutching a large red ball of wool or yarn. The cat features a heavily textured surface finish designed to simulate fur and wears a thin red collar. The figure is inset with a pair of pale green glass eyes. The underside of the body bears the impressed model number 10, which is consistent with Bretby production catalogues, located below an indistinct circular factory mark. The style and subject matter are characteristic of the naturalistic animal studies produced by the Derbyshire-based pottery during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
