A vintage Grain Mk1 miniature sewing machine, manufactured by E.L. Grain (Sewing Machines) Ltd., Nottingham, England. The unit is constructed from cast metal with a green crinkle-finish paint and is mounted onto a rectangular, polished wooden base. Operation is via a manual hand-crank mechanism featuring a large silver-toned metal handwheel with a black handle. The machine includes a chrome-plated needle bar assembly, presser foot, and stitch plate. Identification marks include an oval metal plaque on the wooden base incised with GRAIN, an embossed oval GRAIN mark on the metal tension arm, and the text MADE IN ENGLAND on the vertical bar. The original red and beige cardboard box is included, bearing the manufacturer name and location, E.L. GRAIN (SEWING MACHINES) LTD. NOTTINGHAM.
