This glazed porcelain figurine depicts a pelican in a forward-leaning, dynamic pose. The piece is rendered in white porcelain with hand-painted accents in shades of pinkish-brown on the beak and crest, and grey-brown detailing defining the feathers of the wings and tail. The bird stands upon an integrally cast, textured base finished with green and brown glazes to simulate a naturalistic foliage and rock setting. The underside of the base features a blue underglaze factory mark comprising the stylized Cyrillic monogram for the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory (LFZ), the text MADE IN U.S.S.R. arranged in three lines, and a separate 1c quality grade stamp denoting first sort.
