Buyer's Premium:

A large collection of mid-20th century vintage mass-market paperback books, primarily published by Penguin Books and its imprint Pelican Books. The collection consists of numerous titles across various literary genres, including classic fiction, modern drama, and academic non-fiction, easily identified by the publisher’s iconic colour-coded spine designs: orange for general fiction, blue for Pelican non-fiction, and grey for Penguin Modern Classics. Notable authors represented in the group include D.H. Lawrence with multiple titles such as The Rainbow, Sons and Lovers, The Plumed Serpent, and The Trespasser; Evelyn Waugh including Brideshead Revisited and Decline and Fall; and Jean Plaidy with works such as The Thistle and the Rose and The Haunted Sisters. Other prominent volumes include J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, Richard Adams’ Watership Down, George Orwell’s Down and Out in Paris and London, and William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Also present is a larger format volume, The Penguin Book of Folk Ballads of the English-Speaking World, edited by Albert B. Friedman. The books are presented in standard softcover octavo and duodecimo formats, spanning various printings from the mid-1950s through to the 1970s.
