Another Great Auction
A silver commemorative medal struck to mark the American Bicentennial. The obverse features confronted profile portraits of King George III and George Washington, divided by a jagged vertical line, with the inscriptions GEORGE THE THIRD and WASHINGTON. The reverse depicts a winged figure of Liberty holding a laurel wreath over revolutionary-era soldiers, with the inscriptions INDEPENDENCE, LIBERTY, and the dates 1776-1976. This medal was struck in 1976 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
