Another Great Auction
A circular mixed-metal ashtray featuring a copper bowl with a wide rim and three integrated brass cigarette rests. The rim is decorated with a series of applied brass plaques, alternating between pointed oval foliate motifs and circular medallions. The central well of the ashtray is also set with a circular brass medallion. These medallions depict a stylized bull or ox in profile, drawing on ancient Achaemenid iconography. Beside the bull on each medallion is a vertical column of embossed characters and symbols, including characters resembling a stylized H or M, U, O, D, and U, followed by a wheel-like symbol and a character resembling a 7 or V. The outer edge of the rim is finished with a gadrooned brass border.
