Another Great Auction
A pair of Victorian sterling silver berry spoons or fruit serving spoons. These spoons feature deep repousse bowls with high-relief fruit decoration, including a central pineapple flanked by clusters of grapes and pears, set against a background of foliage. The bowls have scalloped and fluted borders. The handles are in a variant of the Fiddle pattern and are heavily embellished with Victorian scrolled foliate engraving. The reverse of the handle terminals feature an engraved family crest depicting a bird’s head erased, surmounting a torse. The reverse of the stems bear a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark HI for Henry Holland, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, the Queen Victoria duty mark, and the date letter d for 1859.
