A Victorian burr walnut music canterbury of three-tiered form. The piece is constructed with burr walnut veneers over a secondary timber carcass. The top shelf features a pierced fretwork gallery on three sides. The middle section is divided into three compartments by vertical slat-form dividers supported by turned uprights, intended for the storage of sheet music or periodicals. The middle shelf surface contains several circular recessed indentations. The serpentine-fronted base contains a single drawer fitted with two turned wooden knobs. The unit is supported on turned corner posts terminating in turned legs. One leg and its brass and ceramic castor are currently detached. No maker’s marks or labels are present.
