A collection of twelve pieces of African themed glazed earthenware pottery, consisting of eleven circular ashtrays and a single square tray. The pieces are decorated with hand-painted motifs depicting African wildlife and landscapes. The square tray illustrates a traditional village scene with rondavel huts and trees. The eleven circular ashtrays each feature a central medallion with animal subjects: three depict giraffes, three depict zebras, three depict antelopes, one depicts a lion, and one depicts an elephant. Each circular ashtray is designed with four cigarette rests. The entire set is unified by a consistent border of concentric bands in green, yellow, and red. The central illustrations are rendered in black with washes of green and pinkish-brown. No maker’s marks or factory stamps are visible on the pieces.
