A French Napoleon III style portico mantel clock, dating from the mid-to-late 19th century. The clock features an ebonised case of scrolled architectural form, embellished with polychrome painted floral decoration and inlaid mother-of-pearl circular accents. The white enamel dial displays black Roman numeral hour markers and is enclosed within an ornate, cast gilt-metal scrolling bezel. The case is supported on a matching stepped and decorated base. The mechanical eight-day twin-train movement strikes on a bell and is fitted with a backplate bearing an unidentified circular maker’s mark and the numerals 3 and 8. The clock is accompanied by a cast gilt-brass sunburst-pattern pendulum and a winding key.
