A Fedoskino school Russian lacquer box, constructed from papier-mache with a black lacquered exterior and a vibrant red lacquered interior. The lid is decorated with a detailed hand-painted scene depicting three figures in traditional nineteenth-century Russian attire within a snow-covered village setting, featuring wooden houses and a church steeple. The central figure is a woman dressed in a richly decorated red and gold shuba. The painting is bordered by a delicate hand-painted gold filigree scrollwork. In the upper right corner, the artist signature В. Васин (V. Vasin) is present in gold Cyrillic script. The lower right edge bears the gold Cyrillic inscriptions г. Федоскино (G. Fedoskino) and the title «Ах вы сени мои сени» (Ah, My Porch, My Porch), referring to a traditional folk song.
