Buyer's Premium:

A late 19th or early 20th-century carved oak aneroid banjo-style wall barometer with an integrated thermometer. The dark-stained oak case features hand-carved decorative motifs, including stylised acanthus leaves and central roses at the upper and lower terminals. The main circular white dial is printed with Admiral FitzRoy’s Indications and features a pressure scale graduated from 26 to 31 inches of mercury. The dial includes weather designations for STORMY, MUCH RAIN, RAIN, CHANGE, FAIR, SET FAIR, and VERY DRY, as well as two central arched panels with detailed forecasting indications. It bears the printed name and address of the retailer: WILLIAM ALLEN, 13 MILTON ST, NOTTINGHAM. The instrument is fitted with a black main indicator hand, a brass manual setting hand operated by a central knob, and a smaller black recording pointer. The neck of the case houses a vertical glass-tube thermometer with dual scales for Fahrenheit (10-120) and Centigrade (0-50), set against a white ground with decorative black scrollwork at the top.
