A lot comprising two antique pocket watches from the late 19th century.
The first is an ornate gilt metal open-face pocket watch. The case is finished with extensive foliate and scroll-work engraving to the bezel and edges. The white enamel dial is set with Roman numeral hour markers and a subsidiary seconds dial at the six o’clock position. The dial is further decorated with hand-painted polychrome floral motifs, including roses and forget-me-nots, and a gilded floral border. It features ornate pierced blackened metal hands and a fluted winding crown at the twelve o’clock position.
The second is a sterling silver open-face, key-wind pocket watch. The case is heavily engraved with geometric and floral patterns. The interior of the case back bears London hallmarks for sterling silver, including the lion passant and leopard’s head. The maker’s mark G.D is attributed to George Dimmer of London. The case is stamped with the serial number 57533. The white enamel dial features Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track, and a central hand-painted polychrome decorative crest with blue and red accents. A winding aperture is visible on the dial near the two o’clock position. It is fitted with blackened metal spade-style hands.
