A British military S6 NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) respirator kit, which served as the standard issue for British forces from the 1960s through the 1980s. The kit consists of an S6 model respirator featuring a black rubber facepiece with twin circular eyepieces and a front-mounted speech diaphragm and exhaust valve unit. It is fitted with a side-mounted screw-in filter canister. The internal head harness is constructed from green elasticated webbing. The harness is stencilled in white with characters GD1/65 and PR 565, indicating a 1965 production or inspection date. The facepiece bears an embossed 82 near the filter port. Accompanying the mask is a heavy canvas haversack, a durable example of military vintage linens, hand-marked in black ink with I.G.F. SMITH C.P.O., denoting its original issue to a Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer. The lot also includes a small green metal anti-dimming tin with printed instructional text for the application of compound to the eyepieces to prevent fogging in cold weather.
