A collection of rectangular table mats or small trays featuring transfer-printed illustrations of historic English inns and early twentieth-century motor cars. Featured designs include a Ford Model T dated 1915 at the Great White Horse Hotel, a Rolls-Royce dated 1911 at the George Hotel, and a Daimler dated 1899 at the King’s Head, Chigwell. Several illustrations reference literary connections to the works of Charles Dickens. The lot includes a tall, silver-toned cylindrical lidded vessel with embossed foliate and scrollwork decoration, and two small circular mercury-glass style dishes with metal rims. Also present are two framed prints: a large oval monochrome engraving depicting classical figures and a smaller wood-framed monochrome landscape. Further items include a hand-painted wooden boomerang decorated with traditional-style motifs and a small boxed set of cutlery bearing the inscription With compliments from Bell Brothers Arndale Centre Doncaster and Sheffield, with handwritten names Margaret and Gordon on the lid.
