A comprehensive archive of maritime diving, navigation, and educational ephemera primarily belonging to Petty Officer Ian G. Smith, Service Number C/JX 760474, of the Royal Navy, dating from approximately 1959 to 1969. The collection contains several instructional manuals including a softcover booklet titled The Essjee Aqualung Compressed Air Self-Contained Diving Apparatus published by Siebe, Gorman and Company, Limited, and a buff-coloured Vernon Pamphlet Number 720 titled Diver’s Air Breathing Apparatus dated 1959. Personal service records include a green cloth-bound folder inscribed Ian G. Smith. P.O. C/JX 760474. Diving Notes, which contains technical loose-leaf papers and pink examination scripts. A red cloth-bound Navigating Officer’s Note Book, Form S.548A, revised January 1935, is also present. The archive contains multiple buff-coloured E R Crown-marked S.O. Book 321 exercise books covering subjects such as Maths and Geography relating to service in Singapore between 1968 and 1969. Loose ephemera includes a folder from H.M.S. Sultan titled Notes on Paint Application dated September 1960, along with various hand-drawn navigational charts and mathematical diagrams showing course and triangulation calculations.
