A collection of multiple volumes consisting of vintage reference and literary works. The primary components are two multi-volume sets: a complete set of The Children’s Encyclopedia, edited by Arthur Mee, and a partial set of Countries of the World, edited by J.A. Hammerton. The Children’s Encyclopedia volumes are bound in the publisher’s blue cloth with ornate gilt-stamped decorations and lettering to the spines. The Countries of the World volumes feature decorative brown cloth bindings with gilt-stamped titles and alphabetical contents listed on each spine, such as Volume 1 Abyssinia – Bengal and Volume 6 Siberia – Zanzibar. Individual volumes in the collection include Addis and Arnold’s Catholic Dictionary, revised by Mgr. P.E. Hallett and published by Virtue and Co Ltd; Butler’s Lives of the Saints, Volume V, edited by Rev. Bernard Kelly and published by Virtue and Co Ltd; The Plays of J.M. Barrie published by Hodder and Stoughton; and The Children’s Shakespeare arranged by Arthur Mee. The books are predominantly in octavo and quarto formats with publisher’s cloth bindings.
