An Art Nouveau ceramic vessel by Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel (Amphora), produced in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia. The centrepiece features a large organic form resembling a nautilus shell or stylized leaf, around which two semi-nude female nymphs in classical-style flowing drapery are posed. The piece is finished in a matte glaze with a characteristic Art Nouveau palette of muted greens, browns, and ochres, complemented by pale flesh tones and subtle gilt highlights. A single purple flower is applied to the rocky-textured base. The base of the vessel bears an applied rectangular red terracotta pad mark impressed with AMPHORA AUSTRIA. Additionally, there are impressed factory numbers 2868 and 11, and a hand-painted decorator mark in purple-brown pigment reading D59.
Height: 41cm.
