A small square decorative relief tile or block, composed of a moulded ceramic or composite material. The piece features a central beast-like mask or gargoyle head in high relief. The mask is set against an ochre-coloured background decorated with scrolling foliate or Celtic-style patterns in a contrasting blue tone. The reverse of the piece features a rectangular recessed centre containing an impressed maker’s mark consisting of a serrated rectangular border enclosing stylised characters that are not clearly legible.
