An ornate brass mantel clock featuring a mechanical movement by the German manufacturer Franz Hermle and Sohn. The case is constructed from cast brass with a heavily patinated finish, extensively decorated with scrolling foliate motifs. The side panels are embossed with a prominent lyre motif surrounded by vines. The clock features a decorative swing handle to the top and stands on four scrolling feet. The square brass dial face contains a circular chapter ring with individual white enamel-style cartouches for the hours, printed with black Roman numerals. The hands are black and pierced in a fleur-de-lis style. The rear access panel reveals a mechanical, twin-train movement. The movement backplate is marked with the FHS logo, Germany, the model number 130-070, and the date code 81. The clock utilizes a balance-wheel escapement and strikes on a single internal brass bell.
