This lot consists of a trio of antique French adjustable measuring instruments designed for hand-loading firearm cartridges. The group includes one double-ended measure constructed entirely from brass and two measures featuring brass heads mounted on turned dark wood handles. One instrument is clearly marked on the end cap with Manufacture Francaise + Saint-Etienne + and Armes et Cycles. The cylindrical brass bodies are engraved with graduated scales for measuring specific quantities of lead shot and powder, marked Grammes Plomb and Decig. Poudre respectively. Scales observed include increments from 35 to 55 for shot and 18 to 20 for powder. One component features the stamped text Regie Poudre and a symbol of an anchor flanked by the letters G and R, identifying the French state powder monopoly. The measures function via an adjustable inner sleeve that slides within the outer cylinder, secured by a notched slot mechanism to lock the desired volume.
