This collection of studio pottery comprises four distinct pieces. The primary item is a globular stoneware bottle vase by the Australian potter Harold Hughan (1893–1987). It features a short, narrow neck and is decorated with rhythmic, abstract scrolling brushwork in dark iron-oxide over a pale grey-white glaze. The base is incised with the signature Hughan and dated 81. Also included is a large, shallow stoneware bowl or charger with a thick, rounded rim, decorated with a hand-painted brown slip motif of an owl perched on a branch beneath a crescent moon against a speckled cream ground. The third piece is a red earthenware beaker produced by Wold Pottery in Hutton-le-Hole, North Yorkshire. It features a mottled grey and brown exterior and a vibrant teal-green glazed interior; the base is impressed with the marks WOLD, HAND THROWN, HUTTON LE HOLE, and N. YORKSHIRE. The final item is a small, rounded bowl finished in a monochromatic yellow glaze with a relief-moulded floral pattern to the exterior.
