A vintage painted plaster religious figurine, commonly known as chalkware, portraying the Virgin Mary. Likely intended for use in a large-scale Nativity or crèche scene, she is depicted in a kneeling pose of adoration with her hands crossed over her breast. The figure is dressed in a traditional blue mantle over a cream-coloured tunic, both detailed with gold-painted borders, and wearing a white veil. The piece is set upon a circular, textured base painted green to resemble grass. Similar examples are frequently associated with mid-20th century production, however, no factory marks are visible on the exterior surfaces.
