A Belgian maritime navigation masthead lantern of cylindrical form, constructed with a copper body and cast brass fittings. The central section features a clear glass Fresnel ribbed lens designed for light magnification. The circular brass lid is secured by three wingnut-style clamps and includes a central D-handle. The lid is embossed with the maker name Tavernier and the port city Oostende in opposing arcs. A raised brass plaque to the side is embossed with the word Masthead. The upper copper rim features a stamped numerical mark which appears to read 1154. This lantern has been converted for electrical use and contains internal wiring and a bulb. Two mounting brackets are fixed to the reverse for installation.
