A British military metal transit box, identified as a B167 Mark I pattern. This rectangular steel chest was manufactured in 1941 for the storage and transport of equipment or ammunition, such as belts for the Vickers machine gun. The construction features a hinged lid with four reinforcing indentations and a front-mounted latch mechanism. The box is equipped with two heavy-gauge wire drop handles at either end for portage. The lid is stamped with the pattern number B167, the mark number I, the manufacturer code BLSP, and the year of manufacture 1941. Traces of the original olive drab green paint remain visible beneath extensive surface oxidation. A modern paper inventory sticker with the number 1917 is present on the lid and is unrelated to the historical manufacture of the item.
