A silver Queen’s South Africa Medal (1899-1902) awarded for service during the Second Boer War. The obverse features the crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing left, surrounded by the legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX. The reverse is the third type, without the 1899-1900 dates, depicting Britannia overlooking a landscape with marching soldiers and warships, inscribed SOUTH AFRICA at the base. The medal is fitted with a swivel suspender and carries a single silver clasp inscribed CAPE COLONY. The edge is officially impressed with the recipient’s details: 9161 PTE J. DOBESON, K.R.R.C. The medal is suspended from a ribbon with the correct pattern of red, dark blue, and orange vertical stripes.
