An early 20th-century Royal Doulton earthenware jug of flattened, tapered form featuring a pinched, undulating spout and a curved handle. The exterior is decorated with an underglaze transfer-printed scene from the Monks series, depicted in cobalt blue against an ochre ground. The scene shows two monks in a study, with one seated at a desk and the other leaning over his shoulder. The base carries the Royal Doulton lion and crown backstamp, alongside the text U.S. PATENT JUNE 5th 1906 and registration number Rd No 466627. The pattern number D 2545 is hand-painted in black.
