A cast iron fire basket, also referred to as a dog grate, featuring an integral arched fireback. The backplate is decorated in relief with a central lion passant guardant, surrounded by four heraldic emblems representing the nations of the United Kingdom, including a thistle and a Tudor rose. The basket assembly is constructed with horizontal and vertical bars and a tiered front. It is supported by two square-sectioned front legs, each topped with a decorative turned finial. The backplate is secured to the grate frame with bolts. Of British manufacture, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.
