An Arts and Crafts style adjustable floor lamp, commonly referred to as a gibbet or gallows lamp. The piece is constructed from dark-stained oak and features a vertical central pillar supported by a stepped, cross-shaped base with diagonal braces. It utilises a notched, ratcheted arm mechanism allowing for the height and reach of the suspended lantern to be adjusted. The lantern is crafted from dark-patinated metal and contains four inset panels of textured hammered glass. The lamp has been electrified and rewired with a modern white PVC-coated cable, fitted with an inline thumb switch and a standard UK three-pin plug. No maker’s marks are visible on the item.
