Buyer's Premium:

This is a Chinese export porcelain lidded jar of ovoid form with a matching domed lid, dating to the late 19th century during the Late Qing Dynasty. The jar is decorated in underglaze blue with a figurative scene depicting characters in a fenced garden landscape with bamboo. It features an intentional heavy crackle-glaze finish. The shoulder and base of the jar, along with the rim of the lid, are accented with dark brown, textured bronzed bands, which is a characteristic decorative technique of this period. The base of the jar features a four-character mark in underglaze blue reading Cheng Hua Nian Zhi. This is an apocryphal mark, as the style of the porcelain and the specific crackle glaze with bronzed borders are typical of late 19th-century production rather than the 15th-century Ming period it references.
Height: 12 cm.
