A pair of vintage fencing foils of a standard European pattern, likely dating from the early to mid-20th century. Each foil is constructed with a square-section tapering steel blade intended for training and practice. The hilts are comprised of circular bowl-shaped bell guards and faceted pommels. One foil features a hilt made from brass or brass-plated metal, while the other features a hilt with a darkened steel finish. Both foils have ribbed metal grip cores that would have originally been wrapped in leather or cord. A length of red braided cord is attached to the guard of the darkened steel foil. A small adhesive label with the number 1174 is present on one blade. The blades terminate in blunt points and are not fitted with safety buttons.
