A 19th-century Indian copper vessel of bulbous form, commonly referred to as a lota. The piece is constructed from hand-hammered copper and features elaborate high-relief decoration executed through repoussé and chasing techniques. The central frieze depicts a continuous narrative of Hindu mythological figures and deities in dynamic poses, including a figure with simian characteristics likely representing Hanuman. The neck is encircled by a band of repeating geometric motifs, while the lower section above the foot is decorated with a traditional padma or lotus petal border. The vessel exhibits a deep, dark naturally aged patina with heavy verdigris oxidation concentrated within the recessed areas of the design. The base is slightly flared and shows distinct tool marks from the original hammering process.
Height: 5 inches.
