A hand-painted earthenware charger manufactured by the Gien factory in France, featuring the Pivoines pattern. This circular plate possesses a lobed, scalloped rim and is decorated in a traditional French faience style. The central field displays a vibrant polychrome design of large peonies in shades of pink, deep madder red, and yellow, interspersed with scrolling foliage in green, blue, and ochre on a cream-white ground. The design is enclosed by a scrolling blue foliate border with an ochre-coloured rim. The reverse bears a printed blue factory mark comprising a stylized three-towered castle above GIEN in a rectangle and FRANCE below. It also features the text decor garanti inalterable, CUISSON A 1150 degrees, and PEINT A LA MAIN, alongside hand-painted initials LN in blue.
