An early 20th-century missionary collection box produced for the Church Missionary Society (CMS). The item is a rectangular wooden box featuring a single coin slot on the top surface, functioning as a still bank. It is decorated with applied lithographed paper labels on all visible sides. The top panel is printed with the text THE CHURCH MISSIONARY SOCIETY and Founded A.D. 1799, featuring an illustration captioned A MISSIONARY JOURNEY IN THE WILD NORTH-WEST. The side panels contain illustrations of various global religious practices with captions including AFRICAN IDOLS, A HINDU IDOL PROCESSION, and A MOHAMMEDAN PRAYER DAY BEFORE THE MOSQUE AT… One end panel is divided into two scenes depicting A SHINTO TEMPLE JAPAN and ANCESTOR WORSHIP CHINA. The box is constructed from wood with dark-stained or painted edges.
