An Imperial Japanese Army pack horse saddle girth constructed from multiple strands of heavy-duty woven hemp or cotton cord. The cords are gathered and stitched into reinforced brown leather terminals at both ends. Each terminal is fitted with twin metal roller buckles for attachment to a pack saddle. The central leather pad features functional stitching in an upward-pointing arrow pattern. The leather terminal bears several columns of Japanese characters including the date 昭和十七年 (Showa Ju-shichi-nen) corresponding to 1942 and the mark 本廠 (Honsho) indicating the Main Depot or Main Arsenal. A large Broad Arrow or Pheon symbol is stitched into the face of the leather pad, signifying the item was captured and processed as British Government property.
