A brass? decorative desktop model of a Supermarine Spitfire aircraft, manufactured by Bates Bros of Birmingham. The model is cast with the characteristic elliptical wings and a three-bladed propeller associated with the fighter aircraft, mounted via a curved support arm to a weighted oval base. The piece is finished with a polished and lacquered yellow metal surface throughout. Attached to the support arm are two original card tags. A gold-toned rectangular tag is printed with ‘Bates Bros of Birmingham QUALITY BRASS HAND POLISHED AND LACQUERED MADE IN ENGLAND’. A second rectangular white tag contains care instructions reading ‘article has a protective lacquer coating. To retain the brilliant lustrous finish, wipe only with a soft dry cloth. Do not use abrasives or metal polish.’.
